Catalan artist Eugenio Echeverria's AntimonuMeth is a virtual reality (VR) experience of 16 min (approx.) and 5 interactive levels designed for Meta's Oculus Quest 2. The narrative goes through some of the most representative moments of homosexual devastation, specifically: the Middle Ages and the Holy Inquisition, Nazism and the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and correlates them with the current crisis of crystal meth in the gay and bisexual men community.
The VR experience seeks to trigger a series of reflections on the relationship that exists between systemic violence, introjected stigma and addictions. It also opens the possibility of healing the wounds of the homosexual collective body as a consequence of the use of substances and the affective and sexual-affective bonds that are generated.
This piece was presented in the summer of 2023 across key venues of signficant importance for queer life in London. Fitzrovia Chapel, Dalston Superstore and Queer Circle.
